Economic Development Sector gets assured with situation of food cereals in the country PDF Print E-mail

Khartoum, Feb. 21 (SUNA) - The Economic Development Sector of the Council of Ministers, chaired Tuesday by the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Dr. Abdul-Halim Ismail Al-Muaafi, has reviewed the situation of the food cereals in the country and the estimates of the strategic reserve of sorghum (dura).

Dr. Al-Mutaafi explained that the sector got assured that the available sorghum quantities are satisfactory as the strategic reserve for the year 2011-2012 is around 1000,000 tons, pointing out that there will not be any need to import additional quantities from abroad.He added that 50,000 tons of sorghum were allocated to the poultry chamber from the strategic reserve, affirming the readiness of the sector to provide the needs of the poultry sector until it reaches 150,000 tons of sorghum.The minister stated that a strategic reserve of not less that 250,000 tons of cereals was maintained till the next rainy season.
