UNAMID Starts Enlightenment on Doha Document PDF Print E-mail

Sudan vision- Khartoum - The joint mission of the United Nations and African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) announced it had begun to implement activities for enlightenment of Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) between communities in the states of West and South Darfur,

while its implementation is being conducted constantly in the states of central and northern Darfur.UNAMID said, in a press release, that the said activities are being implemented by follow-up mechanism established by the representatives of civil society organizations and local community groups concerned to conduct communication between the organizations on the peace process, where UNAMID provides logistical technical support to the mechanism to implement those activities.UNAMID said that such activities launched officially Sunday in Geneina, capital of Western Darfur State, in an official ceremony attended by the Head of the Regional Authority, Dr. Al-Tijani Al-Sisi, a number of leaders of Western Darfur State and UNAMID representatives, where Al-Sisi called on all parties to support Doha Document in order to achieve well-being of citizens in Darfur, stressing the need to secure IDPs and refugees return areas.Governor of Western Darfur, Haider Galo Koma Atem said, at the ceremony, that the coming period requires concerted efforts from all to implement the Doha Document by providing the necessary services to the citizens of Darfur.
UNAMID reported that the a workshop on the said regard was organized in the city of Nyala, capital of Southern Darfur State this month, and was attended by more than 100 legislators, former parliamentarians and members of political parties, adding that it was followed by a seminar that targeted sectors of the youth, women and other representatives of civil society, where participants in the workshop and the seminar called for the need to implement more activities, to contribute to the awareness and draw attention to Doha Document, stressing that they have become more aware of the provisions of the document and related issues after their participation in the said activities, especially political and economic rights.
UNAMID indicated that it had started, since January 18, in the organization of enlightenment workshops in Northern Darfur on Doha Document. where thirty-workshop  had been organized with the participation of more than three thousand people, confirming its willingness to hold more of such workshops in the coming weeks, especially in the new states, considering that the said activities is a key element to enhance understanding about the Doha Document, and create an enabling environment for its implementation.
