| National Congress Calls on International Community to Boost Rehabilitation and Development Efforts in Darfur |

Khartoum, (SUNA)- The National Congress has called on the international community to transfer the funds and budgets that they assign to the UN - African Union Mission for Darfur, exceeding two billion dollars, for the sake of boosting the realization of development and rehabilitation in Darfur as well as the resettlement of the affected citizens in the region.Chairman of the Political Sector at the National Congress, Dr. Qotbi Al-Mahdi, has welcomed, in a statement to the press Sunday, the call directed by the US Congress for stoppage of support to the organizations that circulate false information about the situation in the region under auspices of pressure groups that are hostile to Sudan, indicating this step is of course welcomes, but we did not see any application to it on the ground up to now.He said that the situation is witnessing stability in Darfur and that development and resettlement efforts are being done in the region in addition to the re-building of institutions through funding provided by Sudan government and the friends.Meanwhile, Dr. Al-Mahdi has expressed the National Congress rejection to the demands and conditions set by the US administration to allow entry of foreign organizations to the rebel-held areas in the Blue Nile and South Kordofan States, stressing that the National Congress will not allow outbreak of another Darfur issue in the country.He affirmed that the national organizations are capable to live up to their role in extending aid to the citizens who were affected by the incidents in the Blue Nile and South Kordofan adding that the national organizations are quite ready to enter the areas at which the rebels are existing. |
